ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

· Central students are going to class on time and working hard in class. Great job. There are less hats, doo rags, electronic devices and cell phones in the building. Keep it up. A gentle reminder that if you are “seen” with these items, you will be asked for them. Also no card playing is allowed. All students must carry their ID cards for security purposes daily. If you do not, you will have a consequence or pay for a new ID, the cost will be $3.

· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.

· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal.

· Let’s keep our school clean! Please do not walk around with any food or drink.

· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!

· Students and staff: We have a serious problem regarding the traffic gridlock in the morning. Please adhere to the following. All student drivers must come in the entrance behind the stadium, Center Street Ext. Any parent wishing to come that way to help alleviate the problem is welcome. Teachers can come in either location as well. The goal is to make the traffic flow as smooth as possible. Any students being dropped off at the main entrance, please tell your parents not to drive into the inner circle as once before.

TEACHERS

· The next meeting for the Faculty Senate will be on November 6^th at 2:40 p.m. in Room F201. All are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

· Please dismiss the Varsity Soccer Team at 12:50 p.m. today. They should report to Mr. Buda’s class A1. Please excuse the following players as well: Jeremy Blair, Wagner Colodette, Anthony Bonaventura, Kristoff Reid and Danny Nunes. Report to A1.

STUDENTS

· Gear-Up for English will be held on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in Room E214 with Ms. Furnari and in Room B109 with Mr. Iovino from 2:30–4:00 p.m. Please see your guidance counselor for an application.

· The National Honor Society has resumed their Monday schedule. There will be a blood drive tomorrow, Oct. 31^st.

· The Fairfield University’s Academic Talent Search Tutoring Program has begun. Tutoring will take place every Monday & Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in Room B107. Please see Ms. Morrone with any questions.

· There will be a Girl’s Indoor Track meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7^th @ 2:30 p.m. in Room B210 with Mr. Curtin. Any girls that are interested in running track should attend.

· The Future Nurses Club will meet every Tuesday after school in Room B103. Everyone is welcome!!

· All Pep-Squad members: There will be mandatory practice on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the cafeteria at 2:45 p.m. Be prepared with sweats, sneakers and a good attitude. You must attend practice if you want to participate in the Pep-Squad!

· The Central Forum holds their meetings every Tuesday after school in Room B204. Our Open Mic Night will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30^th. You must attend 2 meetings with your poetry or short stories to participate. Central Forum awarded $2000.00 in scholarships and prizes last year!

· If you are interested in a career in fashion, or you just love clothes, join the Fashion Club. Fashion Club meetings will take place every Monday in Room F203. Bring your imagination and get your “Fash on”!

· The Urban Crew will have their first practice tomorrow in the Magnet side cafeteria @ 2:30. If you can not attend, please let one of the captains know. All practices are mandatory.

· Congratulations to Wagner Colodette and Jeremy Blair for making the ALL-FCIAC Junior Varsity Soccer Team.

· Congratulations to Adelmar Ramalho for making the FCIAC West Team and to Lee Martins for making the FCIAC West Team and the ALL FCIAC Team for the second year. Great job Fella’s!

· The Soccer Team plays Harding today @ 3:00 p.m. at Harding. Which team will be the best in the city? Come watch.

· “No Child Left Behind Vocabulary” word for the day: Soliloquy – Talking to oneself. The soliloquy is a device used by the dramatist to reveal a character’s innermost thoughts and emotions.

· Help support the class of 2009 by buying a space on our name board for $1.00. This will be displayed at the pep assembly in November. Please see a class representative during the lunch waves to purchase your spot. All money raised will go toward the class of 2009 student activities.

JUNIORS

· Friday, Nov. 3^rd is the absolute last day to pay your Junior Assessment/ Ticket deposit. See Ms. Boehm in Room B206 or Ms. McNeill in Rooms F203, F205 or F207. There are only 15 Ring Dance tickets left.

· Junior class will meet today after school in Room B206.

SENIORS

· Please support the senior class of 2007 by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. See Therese or Liz in the Main Office.

· Thanksgiving cheesecake and pie sales: Cheesecakes and pies are on sale through November 16^th. All orders must be turned in at that time. You can go to your house office to pick up your order forms. Freshman and sophomores: The top 3 sellers will receive $40 for 1^st place, $25 for 2^nd place and 2 free movie tickets for 3^rd place. The junior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Junior Ring Dance. The senior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Prom.

GUIDANCE

· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.

· December 2^nd SAT: Please register by November 1^st.

· December 9^th ACT: Please register by November 3^rd.

· Seniors: There will be a Hispanic College fair at Sacred Heart University tomorrow, October 31^st. Busses will leave Central at 9:30 a.m. and return at 11:30 a.m. Please get a permission slip from your guidance counselor and it is due today, Oct. 27^th. Please see Ms. Candelario or Ms. DaRosa.

· Central is hosting a financial aid night on Monday, November 13^th @ 6:30 p.m. in F111 cafeteria.

Last night’s college fair was a success! This is great news and leaves me to believe that we are serious about being college ready! I also want to thank the Family and Consumer Science department for putting on such a professional looking meal at the fair!

All student drivers must come in the entrance behind the stadium, Center Street Ext. Any parent wishing to come that way to help alleviate the problem is welcome. Teachers can come in either location as well. The goal is to make the traffic flow as smooth as possible. Any students being dropped off at the main entrance, please tell your parents not to drive into the inner circle as once before.

· There will be a meeting for any student interested in joining the CHS Usher Guild today after school in Room F209 with Ms. Fians. This group of students forms the welcoming committee for various events taking place here during the day or after school as well.

· The National Honor Society has resumed their Monday schedule. They are recruiting blood donors for their up-coming blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 31^st. STEP UP ALL YOU GHOULS AND GOBBLINS!! You must be age 17 and weigh at least 110 lbs.

· The Fairfield University’s Academic Talent Search Tutoring Program has begun. Tutoring will take place every Monday & Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in Room B107. Please see Ms. Morrone with any questions.

· The Halloween party scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 27^th has been cancelled.

· Boy’s Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer Teams will meet on today at 2:30 p.m. in Room E103. This is a mandatory meeting and all should bring their uniforms.

· There will be a Girl’s Indoor Track meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7^th @ 2:30 p.m. in Room B210 with Mr. Curtin. Any girls that are interested in running track should attend.

· Attention all Drama Club and theatre students: Permission slips for the field trip to CCSU on Friday, Oct 27^th must be turned in by the end of the day tomorrow, Oct. 26^th. If you need a permission slip, see Ms. Lee in Room B204 or Mr. Stover in Room A109.

· The Central Forum holds their meetings every Tuesday after school in Room B204. Our Open Mic Night will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30^th. You must attend 2 meetings with your poetry or short stories to participate. Central Forum awarded $2000.00 in scholarships and prizes last year!

· “No Child Left Behind Vocabulary” word for the day: Pragmatic – Practical; concerned with the practical worth or impact of something. This coming trip to France will provide me with a pragmatic test of the value of my conversational French class.

SENIORS

· Please support the senior class of 2007 by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. See Therese or Liz in the Main Office.

· The Arise Program will hold its meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. in Room B120. Please sign up in the Gear-Up office in Room B110 and see Ms. Elem.

· The absolute last day to have your portrait taken is tomorrow, Oct 26^th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. If you did not receive an appointment, make sure you show up on Thursday. There will be no other retakes. You have the option to take your picture with a drape or tuxedo with a sitting fee of $20 or without a drape or tuxedo for $10.

· Thanksgiving cheesecake and pie sales: Cheesecakes and pies are on sale through November 16^th. All orders must be turned in at that time. You can go to your house office to pick up your order forms. Freshman and sophomores: The top 3 sellers will receive $40 for 1^st place, $25 for 2^nd place and 2 free movie tickets for 3^rd place. The junior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Junior Ring Dance. The senior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Prom.

GUIDANCE

· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.

· December 2^nd SAT: Please register by November 1^st.

· December 9^th ACT: Please register by November 3^rd.

· Central will host a college fair tomorrow, October 26^th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Over 50 colleges will be here. All students are welcome! Bring along your parents!

· Seniors: There will be a Hispanic College fair at Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, October 31^st. Busses will leave Central at 9:30 a.m. and return at 11:30 a.m. Please get a permission slip from your guidance counselor and it is due by Friday, Oct. 27^th. · Central is hosting a financial aid night on Monday, November 13^th @ 6:30 p.m. in F111 cafeteria.
