ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
Any student who is not involved in an after school activity, must leave the building. This is for your safety.
As the weather gets nicer, the possibility for cutting classes or not coming to school increases. Please carefully consider your choices. This is not in your best interest as it will affect your education which is very important if you are serious about being successful in life. Make good choices for you and your family!
Students please continue the good practice of not using vulgar language throughout the school day as well as not using words that create harm to others. It is inappropriate and will not be tolerated!
All students should make sure that our school has your correct address and phone numbers. This is very important in case of an emergency or when we need to mail literature to your home; especially next year’s schedule. Please go to your house office and make any necessary changes.
Detention for today is for “S House.” For your benefit, make up for your detention!
TEACHERS AND STAFF
save the date! The end of year party will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Testo’s. The party begins at 6:30 with a cash bar and Hors d’oeuvres and the buffet will be served at 7:30. We will be honoring our retirees at this time. Show your Central spirit and plan on attending this fabulous social event. What a great way to end the year!
Teachers: Salary agreements are in the main office. Please come and sign yours ASAP.
Failure Notice Forms have been placed in all teachers’ mailboxes. It is extremely important that you adhere to the dates on these; foremost be very accurate with the information.
Please dismiss the Boy’s Volleyball Team today, May 30th @ 2 p.m.
STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF
All students it is important to have a career goal or a professional direction and to be mindful of those who are able to help you get to that place. Have quality relationships with your teachers; they can assist you in attaining higher grades and they can also help write a recommendation for you. Know your guidance counselor; they are here to help you. Make time to see them and use them as guides to help you with information and anything else you need for the college process.
This Saturday, June 2nd, is the grand opening of The Citywide Youth Center. This will take place @ the Trumbull Gardens Multi-purpose Room on Trumbull Avenue (next to the Calvary Church) from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The annual membership fee is $5. There will be food, games and live entertainment. All are welcome!
The 2007 CHS Sports Banquet will take place on Thursday, June 7th @ 6 p.m. Any student that participated in a sport this year is invited to attend free of charge. Athletes must sign up to attend the banquet with Coach Graf in room H105. Come out and enjoy the dinner and awards with your fellow teammates!
The CHS Band is selling raffle tickets to raise money for the band. Please see Mr. Degroate in room A123. Tickets are $1 for 1 ticket, $2 for 3 tickets, $5 for an arms length and $10 for a body’s length. The prizes you can win are a PSP, a $50 gift certificate to the mall, a basket from Bath & Body Works, a $10 gift certificate to Kohl’s or a $10 gift certificate to Blockbusters!
To all softball girls: Please turn in your uniforms by the end of the day today, May 30th or you will be put on obligation.
The Visual Arts Department will be hosting “A Day in Ancient Egypt” tomorrow, May 31st in the courtyard from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Pharaoh and Queen Nefertiti will be present! Bring money to enjoy our special treats!
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: An electronic device was found in the parking lot between the softball field and tennis courts. If you believe it is yours, please leave a detailed written description of the lost item with the ladies in the main office.
Anyone interested in being in the CHS Marching Band next year, please pick up a sign-up slip on the band room door. Fill one out today!
“No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Lithe (adjective) – Flexible and graceful. The ballet dancer was almost as lithe as a cat. SYNONYMS: Agile; nimble.

FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES
The sophomore class will be collecting your $5 dues in homerooms until June 8th. Please remember the dues are needed to ensure a place for our Ring Dance next year.
There will be a sophomore class meeting on Tuesday, June 5th @ 2:35 p.m. in E113. Ring Dance details will be discussed and voted on.
JUNIORS
Anyone who would like to purchase a Ring Dance souvenir glass or frame, please see Ms. McNeill or Ms. Boehm. The glasses are $1 each and a frame and a glass is $5.
There will be a junior class meeting today, May 30th after school in room B206. Become involved in your senior class activities…We need your help!
Ms. Boehm and Ms. McNeill will start collecting senior banquet deposits beginning this Friday, June 1st. A $25 deposit is required to attend the “Class of 2008” senior banquet which will be held in October, 2007. Come and sail with us as we cruise up Long Island Sound! Cost of tickets is $40 per person and $70 a couple. NO REFUNDS!
All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
Any senior who has not paid for their cap and gown, please see Felicia ASAP.
Any senior who owe obligations, please see Therese in the main office ASAP. Do not wait until last minute as this could result in not being able to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Same goes for if you owe obligations to the library. Pay your library obligations to the library. Please pay any obligations immediately!
Post-prom tickets are on sale in the ticket booth during the last period. The cost is $5. Tickets will not be sold at the door. This is the last week to get your ticket.
This Friday, June 1st, we will be hosting the Barnum Essay Assembly in the auditorium @ 8 a.m. All seniors should attend this assembly.
PTSO
The PTSO is hosting a “Post Prom Party” after the prom @ Central High School from 12 to 4 a.m. Our own DJ “Shaq” will provide the music; there will be breakfast/brunch served and LOTS OF FUN! Tickets will be on sale in the main lobby. The cost is $5. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please see Brenda Walker.
GUIDANCE
Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
For current freshmen: The ConnCAP Summer Pre-Engineering Program at the University of Bridgeport is a program that runs from June 28th to August 8th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students must have an “A” or “B” in Math and Science, recommendations from teachers, scored at goal on CMT and is interested in engineering, computers, math and science. See Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office for an application. There will be a meeting for that freshman who is interested in this program. The deadline to apply is tomorrow, May 31st.
Fairfield University is offering its annual Pre-College Workshop for current sophomores. This is an overnight stay, July 11th-12th in a dormitory. The topics include college admissions information, workshops on essay writing, interviewing, financial aid, scholarships and more. The cost is $10. Please see your counselors for applications. The deadline to apply is June 8th.
Eastern State University in Willimantic is offering a summer institute for future teachers which will run from July 8th to August 3rd. Students get to live on campus and you also earn college credit! Tuition is $200 but will be waived for students who participate in a Free Lunch Program. This is open to current sophomores and juniors. Deadline to apply is today May 30th. See Mr.Moran in the Magnet office.
Housatonic Community College High School Partnership Program for the Fall 2007. Juniors and sophomores can take a course and earn college credit! The student must maintain a “B” average and have counselor recommendation. See your counselor for details. Deadline to apply is June 22nd.
· Senior scholarship awards will be held on Wednesday, June 6th @ 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Seniors of Cape Verdean descent should see Ms. Carpenter for a Cape Verdean Scholarship Application. Applications are due by tomorrow, May 31st.
