TODAY IS F DAY – Periods 3, 1, 5 and 7..

ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
DISTRICT MISSION:
The mission of the Bridgeport Public Schools and its supporting community is to graduate all students “college ready” and prepared to succeed.
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· This month is Hispanic Heritage Month! We encourage all students and staff to show some recognition in your classrooms regarding this month. Just a brief background on the term Hispanic, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau; it refers to Spanish-speaking people in the United States of any race. On the 2000 Census form, people of Spanish/Hispanic/Latino origin could identify themselves as Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban or “other Spanish/Hispanic/Latino.” More than 35 million people identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino on the 2000 Census.
· To honor Hispanic Month, we are having “Spanish Trivia” sponsored by Ms. Manso and her classes. Three questions related to the Spanish world and culture will be asked each week. If you would like to participate, please write your answers down with your name and homeroom and turn it in to the main office. There is a box there for your answers. All correct answers will be entered into a drawing to win a $30 gift certificate to FYE! Good Luck! Here are this weeks questions:
1. Which two historical sites in two Spanish countries have been selected as two of the new seven wonders?
2. What meteorological phenomenon that affects the Caribbean has the same Spanish name as one of Columbus’ boats, but in masculine?
3. What was the original name of Puerto Rico given by the natives?
· Our food drive for the Prospect House Homeless Shelter is in need of more support. Students and staff can donate any canned goods or non-perishable food items to your house office or in the main office. This cause can truly help those who are less fortunate. Thank you for participating in this noble cause!
· The PSAT’s will be given in homeroom this Wednesday, October 17th for grades 9-11. Seniors will have a late day entry that day @ 11 a.m. Any senior who arrives to school early, must report to F105 (cafeteria). Teachers and students will have an extended HR tomorrow, October 16th to complete the student demographic information form. It is important that students bring a pencil and calculator in order for you to do well on the test. There will be no Aqua on the day of the PSAT’s, October 17th. Several HR’s were changed to facilitate the testing process. Aqua students will report to HR’s as follows: Ms. Meetze to room C205. Ms. Williams to room C107, Ms. Trapasso to room E210 and Ms. Krusinski to room E207. Aquaculture students will go to Aqua after the extended homeroom tomorrow, October 16th; the busses will be waiting for you after homeroom.

It is important that you do your academic best so that you are part of the competition for admittance!
· Period 8 has begun. If you need the extra class, especially seniors, please sign up through your guidance counselor.
· Students should not use inappropriate language in school. You must use a respectful language throughout the building at all times. Staff; thank you for helping to address this issue!
· It is now mandatory for all students to have a photo ID. Please wear your ID everyday!
· All students must have the correct color code on their ID to identify what lunch wave you belong to.
· A reminder to all students that hats, doo rags, electronic devices such as laser pens, radios, cell phones, IPods, MP3 Players and video games are not allowed in school. Thank you to all students for obeying this simple request!
· All students now have 3 days to serve detention. You must serve within 3 days from when you receive the detention.
· At the end of the day, all students must leave the building unless you are involved in an after school activity or sport.
· Although I have seen a big improvement, just a gentle reminder that no food or drinks are allowed out of the cafeteria. Thank you to all students! Please let’s keep our school clean!
· The majority of students are coming to school and going to class on time. Excellent job! Keep up the great work! If you do not come to school, it is your responsibility to bring in a note from your parent or guardian and turn it in to your administrator. If you do not, you will be considered to have cut your classes.
