ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· There are quite a few seniors who have not given Felicia in “C House” their measurements for caps and gowns. You will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremonies without your cap and gown, so please see Felicia ASAP!
· Seniors that still need to take the Math CAPT assessments for graduation, there are math packets available from your guidance counselor. If you review these packets, it will provide you with a better opportunity of passing the test for graduation. The test will take place after spring break and I will make the announcement.
· As the weather gets nicer, the possibility for cutting classes or not coming to school increases. Please carefully consider your choices. This is not in your best interest as it will affect your education which is very important if you are serious about being successful in life. Make good choices for you and your family!
· All students should make sure that our school has your correct addresses and phone numbers in time for the next report card mailing. This is also very important for when we mail next year’s schedule to your home. Please go to your house office and make any necessary changes.
· Students, regarding our metal detectors, it has now become part of our procedure for admittance into the building. Please arrive to school on time before the 7:53 bell to avoid detention.
· The use of vulgar language has been used less by our students throughout the school day. Thank you! This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!
· No student is allowed to park in the Staff Parking Lot in the back of the building. If this continues to happen, you will lose your privileges of bringing your car to school. Please adhere to this simple request.
· Students that have not been reporting to study hall, as well as those cutting class, have been receiving detention. However, you will now receive an OSS.
· Please do not leave your jackets, books or book bags in the classrooms. Once the doors are closed, you will not be able to retrieve your belongings.
· I have noticed that more and more students are wearing their ID cards. As a reminder, this is for your safety!
· A continuous reminder to all students that if you are “seen” with any hats or electronic devices, you will be asked for them. Also, no card playing in school.
· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.
· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal. The late bus is provided only for detention and those students participating in after-school activities.
· Our building is looking cleaner; please continue not to bring food or drinks out of the café. Let’s keep our building and outside grounds clean by not littering.
TEACHERS AND STAFF
· Teachers, please limit passes throughout the day. There are far too many students roaming the corridors, especially during periods 6 & 7. After 2 p.m. daily, there should be no passes unless it is an extreme emergency.
· Summer school applications are now available! Please see Ms. Carpenter in the main office. The deadline to apply is April 30th.
· The Class of 2008 will be having their Ring Dance on Friday, May 18th at The Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT. If anyone plans on attending, please place a note in Ms. McNeill’s or Ms. Boehm’s mailbox or you can send them an e-mail.
· save the date! The end of year party will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Testo’s. We will be honoring our retirees at this time. Show your Central spirit and plan on attending this fabulous social event. What a great way to end the year! Details to follow.
· If there are any books that have been overlooked with barcodes that need to be coded, please e-mail Mr. Ortiz.
STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF
· All students that are missing personal items should check the lost and found box in the main office. All items remaining here after Spring Break will be discarded.
· The Biology Club will meet tomorrow, April 10th after school in room C206.
· The next Reading is Fundamental book distribution will be on April 10th, 11th and 12th. The schedule has been placed in all English teachers mailboxes.
· Report card conferences will be held on April 25th and 26th.
· The African-American Club will meet in the “D” room location tomorrow, April 10th immediately after school. All members should attend.
· Students who have signed on with the Usher Guild this year need to see Ms. Fians in room F201. There are 2 more events that will require ushers.
· The Caribbean Club is looking for models for the 2008 calendar. Costumes should reflect some Caribbean theme. Please see Ms. Cunning for details.
· Ms. Moukouanga is performing in “The Crucible,” a play about the Salem Witch hunts at Battell Chapel on Yale Campus in New Haven. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Performances will be on April 14th and 15th. See Ms. Moukouanga with any questions.
· ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! It’s back! The Central Junior Police! If you ever had the desire to become a police officer or medical assistant, then this is for you. Come test your strength at one of the most intense physical training programs in the city. For more information, see Officer Harrison in the security office.
· “No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Fallacy (noun) – An error in fact or logic. It’s a fallacy to think that “natural” means “healthful”; after all, the deadly poison arsenic is completely natural. SYNONYMS: Misconception, falsehood.

JUNIORS
· We still have tickets that have not been paid for! Any payments, starting today, will include a $20 late fee. Juniors that do not pay for their ticket by this Friday, April 13th, will not be able to attend the Ring Dance. See Ms. McNeill or Ms. Boehm.
· The next dates the ring man will be here to take orders and collect payments will be this Thursday and Friday, April 12th and 13th, then again on May 17th and 18th. Ring service days will be on May 21st and 22nd for any problems you might have with your ring.
· All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
· Prom invitations are on sale from Ms. Maltese in Room C118. For the seniors who paid their dues, the cost is $75. For those seniors who have not paid their dues, the cost is $100. First come, first serve.
· We will be conducting a survey for whether we should have a post-prom. The post-prom will be held in the CHS gym after the prom and the cost will be $5. This will include a DJ, breakfast type food and “one fun party!” Please pick up a survey in the main office or in the ticket booth. Ms. Walker and Ms. Holley will host this event.
· The senior banquet is scheduled for May 4th at Leidle’s in Stratford. Tickets are on sale for $40. See Ms. Maltese in room C118 or in the ticket booth period 6.
· Superlatives must be in by this Wednesday, April 11th. Please pick up a sheet in the main office or from Ms. Maltese.

GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· Senior scholarship awards will be held on Wednesday, June 6th @ 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
· Central High School offers a variety of scholarships, prizes, and awards to its graduating seniors. In order to be considered for these awards, seniors must complete an application form and return it to the H House Secretary no later than the close of school this Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Applications for Central High School Scholarships, Prizes, and Awards may be obtained from your guidance counselor, House office, or Mrs. Smith’s office. Only those seniors who return the completed form by the deadline, the close of school on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, will be considered for a Central High School award.
· Seniors of Cape Verdean descent should see Ms. Carpenter for a Cape Verdean Scholarship Application. Applications are due by May 31st.
· The Fairfield County Foundation Leonhardt Scholarship is available for seniors. It is a $2,500. scholarship for 4 years that will be awarded to only 2 Central students. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, financial need, have community involvement or work experience and an essay is required. Applications are available in the Magnet Office or the Career Center. Please return applications to Lisa in the Magnet Office. This is a great opportunity for our seniors! The deadline to apply is May 3rd.
· UCONN Mentoring Program is a summer residential program from July 9th thru July 27th for sophomores and juniors. All different mentorship areas are available. You must be in the top 25% of your class with a 3.0 GPA.
· JUNIORS: The trip to Central Connecticut State University has been postponed to Friday, April 13th. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Please obtain a permission slip from Ms. Dougherty in “S” House or Ms. Gore in the Career Center.
· Tech Prep Program – This program is for juniors and seniors to earn up to 12 college credits from Housatonic Community College. This includes mathematics, science, communication and a career course. Please see your Guidance Counselor for requirements.
· Middle College Program – Seniors can participate in this program to earn two college credits in Math and English at Housatonic Community College. See your Guidance Counselor for requirements.
· The Village Initiative Project College Preparatory & Life Skills Program, Inc. (VIP) sponsors APRIL COLLEGE TOUR on April 16th-19th. For more information, please pick up a flier from the counter in the main office.
· SAT – May 5, 2007: Late fee deadline is this Wednesday, April 11th.
· ACT – June 9, 2007: Please register by May 4th.
· The SUCCESS Program (Students Undertaking College Career Enhancing Study Skills) is offered to freshmen at Sacred Heart University. This is a free residential program where students supplement their education with classes to develop study skills. There are many activities as well. There is a limited number of student’s that can be accepted. Please see Mr. Moran in the magnet office or Mr. Anastasio in Tech Ed. for an application. This program runs from July 8th to July 20th. This is an excellent opportunity for freshmen with average to below-average grades to improve their study skills, as well as other academic areas.
