ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· The last make-up’s for CAPT is today, March 21st @ 8 a.m. in the library.
· … drum roll…….And the winners are… more drum roll…..for perfect attendance during CAPT testing: 1st place, winner of a new IPOD is LaKeya Miller. 2nd place, winner of several movie passes is Ashley Gaie and 3rd place, winner of a $50 gift certificate to FYE is Mariliz Medina! The freshman raffle will be announced soon.
· Congratulations to Lhens Vilson and Samantha Ford for being selected by Building with Books to accompany Ms. Meetze and a group to Mali, Africa this summer. The trek will last 2 weeks and they will be helping to build a school in a small village!
· Students, regarding our metal detectors, it has now become part of our procedure for admittance into the building. Please arrive to school on time before the 7:53 bell to avoid detention.
· The use of vulgar language has been used less by our students throughout the school day. Thank you! This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!
· No student is allowed to park in the Staff Parking Lot in the back of the building. If this continues to happen, you will lose your privileges of bringing your car to school. Please adhere to this simple request.
· Students that have not been reporting to study hall, as well as those cutting class, have been receiving detention. However, you will now receive an OSS.
· Please do not leave your jackets, books or book bags in the classrooms. Once the doors are closed, you will not be able to retrieve your belongings.
· I have noticed that more and more students are wearing their ID cards. As a reminder, this is for your safety!
· A continuous reminder to all students that if you are “seen” with any hats or electronic devices, you will be asked for them. Also, no card playing in school.
· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.
· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal. The late bus is provided only for detention and those students participating in after-school activities.
· Our building is looking cleaner; please continue not to bring food or drinks out of the café. Let’s keep our building and outside grounds clean by not littering.
TEACHERS AND STAFF
· Teachers, please limit passes throughout the day. There are far too many students roaming the corridors, especially during periods 6 & 7. After 2 p.m. daily, there should be no passes unless it is an extreme emergency.
· The Class of 2008 will be having their Ring Dance on Friday, May 18th at The Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT. If anyone plans on attending, please place a note in Ms. McNeill’s or Ms. Boehm’s mailbox or you can send them an e-mail, no later than April 5th.
STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF
· There will be a smoking cessation program put on by the Teen Health Center along with St. Vincent’s Hospital. This free program is for all students who wish to quit smoking. It will be held March 20th through March 26th. Please stop by the Ten Health Center in Room B103 to sign up. Prizes will be given away to the students who attend.
· HOSA is having a bake sale tomorrow, March 22nd after school in the main lobby.
· Central High School is starting a Curling Team! Never heard of Curling? It is a combination of bowling, bocce, shuffle board and hockey. A bus will take anyone who is interested tomorrow, March 22nd to the Wonderland of Ice for a demonstration of what this sport is all about. Please meet in the main lobby @ 3 p.m. See Mr. Graf in Room H105 and sign up for this new sport.
· There will be a mandatory soccer meeting for all interested players on Thursday, March 29th @ 2:45 p.m. in Room E103. Bring your progress report and do not be late. The meeting will last about ½ hour.
· Please come and support the Building with Books bake sale tomorrow, March 22nd after school. The club will also be doing a service project at the same time. This is a regular meeting so all club members should attend.
· Those students that are interested in RCA for next year, please see Ms. Dougherty in “S House.”
· All TCP Scholars: The college tour visit Fairfield University will be tomorrow, March 22nd @ 9 a.m. See Mr. Brockenberry in Room E212 for forms and calendars.
· The Caribbean Club will be meeting tomorrow, March 22nd to discuss hosting a Jamaican play. All interested students are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held in Room B209 @ 2:40 p.m. See Ms. Cunning for more information.
· Ms. Moukouanga’s book club will meet today, March 21st after school in Room C101. Bring your book!
· The National Honor Society applications are due this Friday, March 23rd. See Ms. Yeager in Room C112. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply.
· There will be a mandatory meeting today, March 21st for all GSA students who are attending the True Colors Conference in Room C111. Please make sure you bring your permission slips as well as your money for the trip.
· Do you struggle in Math? Come to Gear-Up for Math tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday @ 2:40 p.m. in Room E212.
· The FCCLA fashion show is scheduled for April 5th @ 6 p.m. Mark your calendars! You may purchase your tickets from any FCCLA member or advisor, Ms. Griffin or Ms. Williams. Thank you for your support!
· ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! It’s back! The Central Junior Police! If you ever had the desire to become a police officer or medical assistant, then this is for you. Come test your strength at one of the most intense physical training programs in the city. For more information, see Officer Harrison in the security office.
· “No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Adulation (noun) – Extreme admiration. Few young actors have received greater adulation than did Marlon Brando after his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire. SYNONYMS: Idolization; adoration.

JUNIORS
· Please pick up your class of 2008 information packets from Ms. Boehm or Ms. McNeill. This packet contains important information regarding the Ring Dance, Senior Banquet and the Prom.
· The Ring Dance is fast approaching! The balance for your tickets are due ASAP; no later then Thursday, April 5th. No ticket will be sold after that date. The cost is $80. Those students who made deposits for the bus, the bus has been cancelled and your deposits will be put toward the cost of your tickets.
· The next dates the ring man will be here to take orders and collect payments will be on April 12th and 13th, then again on May 17th and 18th. Ring service days will be on May 21st and 22nd for any problems you might have with your ring.
· All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
· Prom invitations are on sale from Ms. Maltese in Room C118. For the seniors who paid their dues, the cost is $75. For those seniors who have not paid their dues, the cost is $100. First come, first serve. The banquet tickets will go on sale on April 1st. The cost will be announced soon.
· Caps and gowns are on sale for $30. The payment deadline will be on Monday, June 11th. Please see Felicia in “C” House ASAP so she can place the orders.
· Seniors, please pick up your form for your diploma from your English teacher or in the main office. Complete and return to Ms. Yvonne in the main office.

GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· UCONN Mentoring Program is a summer residential program from July 9th thru July 27th for sophomores and juniors. All different mentorship areas are available. You must be in the top 25% of your class with a 3.0 GPA.
· JUNIORS: There will be a trip to Central Connecticut State University on April 9th. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. You can obtain a permission slip from Ms. Dougherty in “S” House.
· Project Oceanology (Ocean Diversity Institute) is a 1 week free residential program during the April vacation for students interested in marine science at the Coast guard Academy. This is available for current freshman and sophomores. The deadline to apply is March 30th. See Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office for an application.
· Montana State University will be at Central on Monday, March 26th @ 1:30 p.m. in the library. Any interested students should attend.
· SAT – May 5, 2007: Please register by March 29th.
· ACT – June 9, 2007: Please register by May 4th.
· Tech Prep Program – This program is for juniors and seniors to earn up to 12 college credits from Housatonic Community College. This includes mathematics, science, communication and a career course. Please see your Guidance Counselor for requirements. Deadline to apply is March 27th.
· Middle College Program – Seniors can participate in this program to earn two college credits in Math and English at Housatonic Community College. See your Guidance Counselor for requirements. Deadline to apply is March 27th.
