ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· Seniors that still need to take the Math CAPT assessments for graduation, there are math packets available from your guidance counselor. If you review these packets, it will provide you with a better opportunity of passing the test for graduation. The test will take place in early May; I will announce the date shortly.
· Report card conferences will be held tomorrow, April 25th from to 3 p.m. and Thursday, April 26th from 6 to 8 p.m. Both days will have an 11:53 a.m. dismissal for students. Homeroom teachers will distribute the report cards.
· Attention all seniors: This Thursday, April 26th, we are going to be holding a presentation called “Planning for Life.” You will be in for a treat! Topics will include college and career planning, physical fitness as well as character & leadership. At the end of the presentation, gifts will be handed out as well as a Subway lunch. The presentation will be from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Don’t miss it!
· As the weather gets nicer, the possibility for cutting classes or not coming to school increases. Please carefully consider your choices. This is not in your best interest as it will affect your education which is very important if you are serious about being successful in life. Make good choices for you and your family!
· All students should make sure that our school has your correct addresses and phone numbers in time for the next report card mailing. This is also very important for when we mail next year’s schedule to your home. Please go to your house office and make any necessary changes.
TEACHERS AND STAFF
· Summer school applications are now available! Please see Ms. Carpenter in the main office. The deadline to apply is April 30th.
· The Class of 2008 will be having their Ring Dance on Friday, May 18th at The Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT. If anyone plans on attending, please place a note in Ms. McNeill’s or Ms. Boehm’s mailbox or you can send them an e-mail.
· save the date! The end of year party will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Testo’s. We will be honoring our retirees at this time. Show your Central spirit and plan on attending this fabulous social event. What a great way to end the year! Details to follow.
· If there are any books that have been overlooked with barcodes that need to be coded, please e-mail Mr. Ortiz.
· ATTENTION all 12th grade English teachers. Post prom surveys were placed in your mailboxes a few weeks ago. This survey is to vote whether or not we should hold the post prom event here at Central after the prom. Please hand them in ASAP to Kris in the main office.
STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF
Check out the “Nu-2-U” Prom and Ring Dance Expo! This event features new and “gently used” stylish dresses in a variety of sizes. Donations are just $10! Amazing! It will be held this Saturday, April 28th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. @ St. Johns Episcopal Church (corner of Fairfield and Park Avenues, Bridgeport.) Sorry, they can not guarantee that everyone will be fitted for a garment.
· Spring try-outs for the Central High School Football Team will be held tomorrow, April 25th @ 3 p.m. in the auditorium.
· If anyone has any old cell phones and/or chargers, please donate them to Ms. Riti or to Adrienne in “S House.” These donations will go toward raising money for the Health Department at Central.
· ATTENTION LACROSSE PLAYER’S: Today’s game (April 24th) against Ridgefield has been moved to a 7 p.m. start. The bus will leave at 4:45 p.m.
· Drum major try-outs will be held after school this Thursday, April 26th in the band room.
· Anyone interested in being in the CHS Marching Band next year, please pick up a sign-up slip on the band room door. Please fill one out today!
· Any student who is interested in going to the Body Exhibition trip at the South Street Seaport in NYC on Wednesday, May 23rd, , please see Ms. Riti or Mr. Denton for a permission slip. Permission slips are due on Friday, May 4th
· The FCCLA Fashion Club will meet today, April 24th after school in room F201. All members are asked to attend.
· Attention all Latinos or Spanish Dancers! We are organizing a show for the end of the year for “Hispanic Heritage Month.” Think you can dance? Come to our first meeting today, April 24th, after school in room E209.
· Usher’s who are helping out with parent conferences tomorrow and Thursday, April 25th and 26th, and have not spoken to Ms. Fians yet, please do so ASAP. She needs to coordinate both conferences.
· The Biology Club has been re-scheduled for TODAY, April 24th. Please meet after school in room C206.
· The Engineering Club is having a pizza fundraiser tomorrow, April 25th after school. $1 for a slice and $.50 for a soda.
· “No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Alacrity (noun) – Cheerful readiness to do something. Thrilled with the job offer, he accepted with alacrity…”Before they can change their minds!” he thought. SYNONYMS: Willingness; promptness; speed.

FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES
· The sophomore class will be collecting dues during all lunch waves until further notice.
JUNIORS
· There will be a junior class meeting for officers only today, April 24th after school in room F205.
· Tickets for the Ring Dance will be distributed May 10th through the 15th in the ticket booth during all lunch waves.
· The ring man will be here to collect payments on May 17th and 18th. Ring service days will be on May 21st and 22nd for any problems you might have with your ring.
· Any junior who is attending the ring dance, please pick up your early dismissal slips from your “house office” beginning on Monday, April 30th. For any junior who has not paid for their ticket, see Ms. McNeil or Ms. Boehm immediately.
· All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
Any senior who has not paid for their cap and gown, please see Felicia ASAP.
· Prom invitations are on sale from Ms. Maltese in Room C118. For the seniors who paid their dues, the cost is $75. For those seniors who have not paid their dues, the cost is $100. First come, first serve.
· The senior banquet is on Friday, May 4th at Leidle’s in Stratford. Tickets are still on sale from Ms. Maltese. The cost is $40.
· Any senior who owe obligations, please see Therese in the main office ASAP. Do not wait until last minute as this could result in not being able to participate in the graduation ceremonies.

GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· ATTENTION to all seniors still wishing to apply to college: There will be admission representatives from University of Bridgeport here at Central on Wednesday, April 25th in the Career Center from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Students can apply and be notified “on the spot!” Community grants will also be awarded, ranging from $6,000. for a year to $12,000. for a year, depending on your GPA and SAT scores.
· Senior scholarship awards will be held on Wednesday, June 6th @ 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
· Seniors of Cape Verdean descent should see Ms. Carpenter for a Cape Verdean Scholarship Application. Applications are due by May 31st.
· The Fairfield County Foundation Leonhardt Scholarship is available for seniors. It is a $2,500. scholarship for 4 years that will be awarded to only 2 Central students. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, financial need, have community involvement or work experience and an essay is required. Applications are available in the Magnet Office or the Career Center. Please return applications to Lisa in the Magnet Office. This is a great opportunity for our seniors! The deadline to apply is May 3rd.
· UCONN Mentoring Program is a summer residential program from July 9th thru July 27th for sophomores and juniors. All different mentorship areas are available. You must be in the top 25% of your class with a 3.0 GPA. The deadline to apply is May 7, 2007.
· The Village Initiative Project College Preparatory & Life Skills Program, Inc. (VIP) sponsors APRIL COLLEGE TOUR on April 16th-19th. For more information, please pick up a flier from the counter in the main office.
· SAT – June 2, 2007: Please register by this Friday, April 27th.
· ACT – June 9, 2007: Please register by May 4th.
· The SUCCESS Program (Students Undertaking College Career Enhancing Study Skills) is offered to freshmen at Sacred Heart University. This is a free residential program where students supplement their education with classes to develop study skills. There are many activities as well. There is a limited number of student’s that can be accepted. Please see Mr. Moran in the magnet office or Mr. Anastasio in Tech Ed. for an application. This program runs from July 8th to July 20th. This is an excellent opportunity for freshmen with average to below-average grades to improve their study skills, as well as other academic areas.
