ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· All Students must have a photo ID daily for security purposes and your safety. Those students who are not wearing one will receive detention! If you lost your ID, you need to pay $3 for a new one. This will be strictly enforced!
· A continuous reminder to all students that if you are “seen” with any hats or electronic devices, you will be asked for them. Also, no card playing in school.
· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.
· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal. The late bus is provided only for detention and those students participating in after-school activities.
· Let’s keep our school clean! Please do not walk around with any food or drink. Additionally, some of our neighbors have been complaining about the trash outside of the building. Let’s keep our area and Bridgeport clean…Don’t litter!
TEACHERS
· All students must have a pass from their teacher when leaving the room during class time. This includes any student that has been called down or sent to any of the house offices. Thank you for your cooperation.
· Those who wish to purchase soup and a roll from the Food Service Program on Friday’s need to notify Ms. Fians either by e-mail or a note in her mailbox. A visit to her classroom during your lunch wave will also work. The program is in Room F201 with service available for lunch waves 2, 3 and 4. Soup is $2.25 per cup and $5 for a quart.
STUDENTS AND STAFF
· All students that did not pass the math portion of the CAPT, you must go to a review today, January 16th and tomorrow, January 17th @ 8:00 a.m. in the Library. Friday, January 19th will be the test. This test is an alternative the district is offering as an alternative for the CAPT graduation expectations. Seniors, for your benefit this should be mandatory for you!
· The Main Office is waiting to receive more lanyards for student and staff ID’s. We will make an announcement when they arrive; however, it could be a couple of weeks.
· All NEDC, Botball and Academic Decathlon members, there is a mandatory meeting today, January 16th after school in Room E101.
· The H House Multicultural Day celebration will take place on Friday, January 26th. Students who would like to perform must attend the meetings tomorrow, January 17th, Wednesday, January 18th and Thursday January 19th @ 2:45 p.m. These will be quick rehearsals.
· There will be an important Cape Verdean Club meeting on Thursday, January 18th immediately after school in Room F201.
· The Interact Club will be selling Valentine Roses! Flyers have been placed around the building explaining how to order. All proceeds will go to the Denan African Medical Project. Show your spirit and support this worthy project!
· The Interact Club will meet today, January 16th after school in Room F209. We will be discussing the Denan Project fundraiser. All members are urged to attend.
· The African American Club will meet in the “D” room location today, January 16th. The outline for the Black History Program will be reviewed. Students who wish to be part of the program should attend.
· The Central Forum will be hosting an Open Mic Night on Friday, February 9th here at Central High School. You must come to the meeting today, January 16th if you want to partipate. The meeting is after school in Room B204. Bring your writings.
· HOSA and the Drama Club will be hosting a talent night on Friday, February 2nd. If you would like to perform, please sign up in the main office or see Ms. Lee. All acts will be previewed on Friday, January 26th after school in Room A109. See Ms. Lee with any questions.
· Any student who is enrolled in any AP course needs to see Ms. Hale in Room E210 to pick up an AP Testing Registration form and an AP College Board Bulletin as soon as possible. The deadline is this Friday, January 19th.
· The FCCLA Fashion Club will be meeting today, January 16th @ 2:45 p.m. in Room F203.
· “No Child Left Behind Vocabulary” word for the day: Protagonist (noun) – The main character in a story or play; the main supporter of an idea. Leopold Bloom is the protagonist of James Joyce’s great novel “ Ulysses.” SYNONYMS: Central character; advocate.
· Happy Birthday to: Joseph Preston, Yirah Rivera, Alex Soares and Donald Walker.

JUNIORS
· We have a luxury coach bus reserved for the junior ring dance. It will take all juniors to and from the dance. The cost for a seat is $20. Originally, we had a larger bus reserved, but since we have only 10 students who reserved a seat, we had to size down to a bus that seat less passengers. If you would like to reserve a seat, please see Ms. McNeill. The deadline to reserve your seat has been extended to this Wednesday, Jan. 17th. This will be the absolute last day to reserve. If we do not fill the 19 seats that are still available by the deadline, we will have to cancel the bus altogether.
· There is a limited amount of Junior Ring Dance tickets left. Tickets for the dance have gone up to $80 as of January 2nd and assessments have also increased to $30.
· The ring man will be back on Thursday and Friday, February 1st and 2nd. He will be here during the lunch waves to take orders and collect payments.
· There will be a junior class meeting today, January 16th after school in Room F205. Juniors that are running for Prince or Princess must attend this meeting!
SENIORS
· Senior class dues have gone up to $30 as of January 2nd. Any senior that has not paid their dues will not be able to participate in any events.
· Caps and gowns are on sale for $30. The payment deadline will be on Monday, June 11th. Please see Felicia in C House ASAP so she can place the orders by Monday, March 5th.

GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· Seniors may apply for the Broad Prize Scholarship. They must have a 2.75 GPA in their senior year. As well, they must have shown steady, consistent improvement from grades 9 through 12. Please see your counselor for an application. The deadline is January 19th.
· Attention juniors: DISCOVERY CARD SCHOLARSHIP is available for juniors. You must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 for grades 9 and 10, demonstrate leadership, and be active in some form of community volunteering. Deadline to apply is January 31st. To apply, go to the website at www.discovercard.com/tribute.
· Any female African American student with a 3.0 GPA and SAT scores of 1350 who wish to apply for the Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship, should see Ms. Carpenter for an application. Applications are due by Thursday, February 1st.
· The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be given at Central High School on Wednesday, February 28th @ 8 a.m. in the library. This is the best career survey available. Students interested in learning about their aptitude for various careers should take the ASVAB. It is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. It is given here only once a year. Sign up with your guidance counselor or in the Career Center. Deadline to register is February 14th.
· LEAD Summer Program (Leadership Education and Development): This is a 3 week summer program for high achieving juniors who are interested in business. The program takes place at various universities throughout the country. Qualifications are: Minimum “B” average. SAT 1,000) Critical reading and Math only), and demonstrated leadership ability. This is a national program, so it is extremely competitive. Deadline to apply is February 15th. Applications are available in the Magnet Office.
· SAT - March 10, 2007: Please register by February 2nd.
· ACT – April 14, 2007: Please register by March 9th.
