ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Central students are going to class on time and working hard in class. Great job. There are less hats, doo rags, electronic devices and cell phones in the building. Keep it up. A gentle reminder that if you are “seen” with these items, you will be asked for them. Also no card playing is allowed. All students must carry their ID cards for security purposes daily. If you do not, you will have a consequence or pay for a new ID, the cost will be $3.
A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.
Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal.
Let’s keep our school clean! Please do not walk around with any food or drink.
Our Food Drive for the Prospect House is in need of more support. Students and staff, please donate any cans or non-perishable items to each house office or to the main office. This cause can truly help those that are less fortunate. Thank you for participating in this noble cause.
All students taking the PSAT’S on Wednesday, please remember to bring your yellow admittance paper to the testing session. Testing will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Do not be late. Juniors, your testing site will be in both cafeterias. Sophomores and two freshmen classes will be held on the second floor E corridor, and most freshmen will meet in the library.
The Interact Club will be walking for Diabetes this Sunday, Oct. 15th at Penfield Pavilion in Fairfield. Walkers should arrive by 8:30 a.m. to hand in their money and register. Permission slips should be given to Ms. Chimini by noon today or handed in the day of the walk. Arrange for transportation pick up by noon.
TEACHERS
Ms. Carpenter needs help in the cafeteria for breakfast from 7:15 until 7:50 a.m. Perhaps you might be interested in swapping this for one of your assigned supervision periods.
The next meeting for the Faculty Senate will be on November 6th at 2:40 p.m. in Room F201. All are welcome and are encouraged to attend. Also, the Traffic and Parking meeting is on Monday, Oct. 16. If you have a viable solution or a civil engineering mind, please come!
STUDENTS
· Any student interested in the education program at New York University should see Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office ASAP regarding a New York University Teaching Scholarship. Since New York University is highly competitive, interested students should have outstanding grades.
Anyone interested in joining the Central Gospel Choir, you are to go down to the Teen Health Center.
Practice for the Urban Crew is cancelled for today and until further notice. Please meet in the Lobby immediately after school today.
DECA fundraisers have arrived. Pick up your order in room C112.
Any student interested in attending the 100 Black Men Scholarship Program tomorrow, Oct. 14th @ the Stamford Marriott, can see either Ms. Elem or Ms. Gore for a permission slip to ride the bus. There will be historically black colleges and traditional colleges accepting applications and offering scholarships.
The African-American Club will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 2:30 p.m. in Room D111. All students are welcome. See Mr. Adams or Ms. Fians with any questions.
Drama Club: There will be a brief meeting for the officer’s today immediately after school in the Auditorium. Also, there will be a full cast rehearsal and all cast members must attend. See Ms. Lee with any questions.
The National Honor Society will return to its Monday meeting schedule starting this Monday, Oct. 16th. Monday’s meeting will finalize the mentorship ceremony and initiate the blood drive. This meeting is mandatory for all members.

FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES
· Help support the class of 2009 by buying a space on our name board for $1.00. This will be displayed at the pep assembly in November. Please see a class representative during the lunch waves to purchase your spot. All money raised will go toward the class of 2009 student activities
JUNIORS
· Junior Assessment / Ring Dance deposits are due no later than Friday, October 20th. Only 500 tickets are available so FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. See Ms. Boehm or Ms. McNeill for more information.
· Class ring order kits are here!! You can receive yours from your English teacher first, or then from Ms. Boehm in Room B206, Ms. McNeill in Rooms F205 / F207, or in the main office. The Ring Man will be here on Wednesday, Oct. 25th thru Friday, the 27th in the cafeteria during lunch periods.
SENIORS
· Please support the senior class of 2007 by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. See Therese or Liz in the Main Office.
· Senior dues of $20 are due on Friday Oct. 20th. No senior will be allowed to participate in senior activities without your dues paid. See Ms. Maltese or Therese and Liz in the main office.
· The Arise Program will hold its meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. in Room B120. Please sign up in the Gear-Up office in Room B110 and see Ms. Elem.
· Senior portraits will be taken beginning Monday, Oct. 16. You have the option to take your picture with a drape or tuxedo with a sitting fee of $20 or without a drape or tuxedo for $10.
PTSO
· Thanksgiving cheesecake and pie sales: Cheesecakes and pies go on sale Monday, Oct. 16th. All orders must be turned in at that time. You can go to your house office to pick up your order forms. Freshman and sophomores: The top 3 sellers will receive $40 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place and 2 free movie tickets for 3rd place. The junior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Junior Ring Dance. The senior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Prom.

GUIDANCE
· PSAT on Wednesday, October 18th @ Central.
· December 2nd SAT: Please register by November 1st.
· December 9th ACT: Please register by November 3rd.
· Sophomores: There will be a college fair at Bridgeport City Hall on Friday, October 20th. Only 20 students from each office are allowed so FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. See your guidance counselor for a permission slip.
· Central will host a college fair on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Over 50 colleges will be here.
· There will be a Hispanic Collage fair at Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, October 31st @ 9:30 a.m. Students please get a permission slip from your guidance counselor.
· Central is hosting a financial aid night on Monday, November 13th @ 6:30 p.m. in F111 cafeteria.
· The following colleges will be visiting Central in the library:
1. Oct. 13th – Vassar College (NY) @ 9:00 a.m. Most competitive.
2. Oct. 13th – Western Connecticut State University @ 10:30 a.m.
