ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· Central students are going to class on time and working hard in class. Great job. Gentle reminder students that if you are “seen” with hats, doo rags, electronic devices, and cell phones in the building, you will be asked for them. Also no card playing is allowed.
· All students must carry their ID cards for security purposes daily. If you do not, you will have a consequence or pay for a new ID, the cost will be $3.
· We have started a food drive for the Prospect House Homeless Shelter. Please donate any cans or non-perishable items to each house office or to the main office. Thank you for your participation to this noble cause.
· Congressman Charles B. Rangel (NY) and State Senate Candidate Diane Farrell (Westport) will be visiting the Civics class with Mr. Tom Wade today in the Media Center @ 11:45.
TEACHERS
· No candy sales for any staff or students will be permitted from this time on.
· The first meeting of the Faculty Senate will be held today, Oct.10th at 2:40 p.m. in Room F201. The Faculty Senate is the vehicle by which the faculty of the school works with the building administrator to improve school climate. If your are interested in representing your house at this monthly meeting, please speak with John Brockenberry and contact your house principal.
· Ms. Carpenter needs help in the cafeteria for breakfast from 7:15 until 7:50 a.m. Perhaps you might be interested in swapping this for one of your assigned supervision periods.
STUDENTS
· Any student interested in the education program at New York University should see Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office ASAP regarding a New York University Teaching Scholarship. Since New York University is highly competitive, interested students should have outstanding grades.
· Anyone interested in joining the Central Gospel Choir, you are to go down to the Teen Health Center.
· Practice for the Urban Crew will be today, Oct. 10th @ 2:35 in the auditorium.
· DECA fundraisers have arrived. Pick up your order in room C112.
· CHS PEP Squad has posted the names of the members by the café, congratulations to the new members.
· Boys Indoor Track will be meeting with students interested in joining today, Oct.10th at 2:35 p.m. in Room D113.
· All Cheerleaders: Practice is cancelled for today, Oct. 10th and will resume tomorrow.
· Members of the Young Educators Society should see Ms. Chimini after school today in Room F209.
· There will be an Interact meeting today after school in Room F209. All members who are walking for Diabetes on Sunday should attend.
· Any student interested in attending the 100 Black Men Scholarship Program this Saturday @ the Stamford Marriott can see either Ms. Elem or Ms. Gore for a permission slip to ride the bus. There will be historically black colleges and traditional colleges accepting applications and offering scholarships.
· There will be a meeting for the parents of all football players and cheerleaders tonight in Room A109 @ 6:00 p.m.
· Pep Squad practice will be held today @ 2:40 p.m. All members must attend.
· Happy Birthday to: Enderson Del Rio, Glen Hill, Arnold Hitoaliag, Tiffany Mack, Mary Rosado and Laura Vazquez.
FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES
· The sophomore class of 2009 will hold its 2nd class meeting today, Oct.10th after school in Room E113.
· Help support the class of 2009 by buying a space on our name board for $1.00. This will be displayed at the pep assembly in November. Please see a class representative during the lunch waves to purchase your spot. All money raised will go toward the class of 2009 student activities
JUNIORS
· Junior Assessment / Ring Dance deposits are due no later than Friday, October 20th. Only 500 tickets are available so FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. See Ms. Boehm or Ms. McNeill for more information.
SENIORS
· Please support the senior class of 2007 by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. See Therese or Liz in the Main Office.
· Senior dues of $20 are due ASAP. No senior will be allowed to participate in senior activities without your dues paid.
· Senior portraits will be taken beginning October 16th. See Mrs. Hale in room E210.
· The Arise Program will hold its meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. in Room B120. Please sign up in the Gear-Up office in Room B110 and see Ms. Elem.
· Seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or above and are interested in taking a one credit course in International Studies at the University of Bridgeport, should see Ms. Anekwe in the History Department by Wednesday, October 11th. This course is being offered for free!!
PTSO
· The Parent, Teacher, Student Organization invites all parents and students to come and learn about all the different clubs and activities available for students to become involved within the school community. We will also be celebrating Hispanic Month. This will be held today, Oct.10th at 6:30 p.m. For more info, please contact Cassandra, Parent Activities Coordinator @ 330-2412 – cedmonds@bridgeportedu.net.
GUIDANCE
· PSAT on Wednesday, October 18th @ Central.
· December 2nd SAT: Please register by November 1st.
· December 9th ACT: Please register by November 3rd.
· Sophomores: There will be a college fair at Bridgeport City Hall on Friday, October 20th. Only 20 students from each office are allowed so FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. See your guidance counselor for a permission slip.
· Central will host a college fair on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Over 50 colleges will be here.
· There will be a collage fair at Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, October 31st @ 9:30 a.m. Students please get a permission slip from your guidance counselor.
· Central is hosting a financial aid night on Monday, November 13th @ 6:30 p.m. in F111 cafeteria.
· The following colleges will be visiting Central in the library:
1. Oct. 10th – Columbia University (NYC) @ 12:45 p.m. Very, very competitive!!
2. Oct. 10th – University of Puerto Rico @ 1:15 p.m.
3. Oct. 11th – Wittenburg University (OH) @ 9:30 a.m.
4. Oct. 12th – University of Bridgeport @ 9:30 a.m.
5. Oct. 13th – Vassar College (NY) @ 9:00 a.m. Most competitive.
6. Oct. 13th – Western Connecticut State University @ 10:30 a.m.
