ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· All Teachers: Tomorrow, May 18th, is the closing of the 4th marking period progress reports! Gentle reminders to make sure that all students receive a grade or a pass fail on their reports. Thank you!
· Any student who is not involved in an after school activity, must leave the building. This is for your safety.
· As the weather gets nicer, the possibility for cutting classes or not coming to school increases. Please carefully consider your choices. This is not in your best interest as it will affect your education which is very important if you are serious about being successful in life. Make good choices for you and your family!
· Students please continue the good practice of not using vulgar language throughout the school day as well as not using words that create harm to others. It is inappropriate and will not be tolerated!
· All students should make sure that our school has your correct address and phone numbers. This is very important in case of an emergency or when we need to mail literature to your home; especially next year’s schedule. Please go to your house office and make any necessary changes.
· Detention for today is makeup day for all houses. For your benefit, make up for your detention!
TEACHERS AND STAFF
· The Class of 2008 will be having their Ring Dance tomorrow evening, May 18th at The Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT. If anyone plans on attending, please place a note in Ms. McNeill’s or Ms. Boehm’s mailbox or you can send them an e-mail.
· If anyone is interested in chaperoning the senior prom, please notify Ms. Maltese either by e-mail or by leaving a note in her mailbox.
· save the date! The end of year party will be held on Thursday, June 14th at Testo’s. We will be honoring our retirees at this time. Show your Central spirit and plan on attending this fabulous social event. What a great way to end the year!
· E-mail to Ms. Fians today your orders for the “Turkey Vegetable Salad Mix.” This is a medley of short whole grain pastas with greens, herbs and ground turkey. Salad is served with a slice of Dill bread all for only $3! Delicious!
· Teachers, please dismiss the tennis team and the softball team at 1:45 p.m. today, May 17th.
STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF
· All students it is important to have a career goal or a professional direction and to be mindful of those who are able to help you get to that place. Have quality relationships with your teachers; they can assist you in attaining higher grades and they can also help write a recommendation for you. Know your guidance counselor; they are here to help you. Make time to see them and use them as guides to help you with information and anything else you need for the college process.
· There will be a mandatory cheerleading meeting today, May 17th after school in the gym. Anyone who owes Ms. Walker a uniform, please bring it with you.
· ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: An electronic device was found in the parking lot between the softball field and tennis courts. If you believe it is yours, please leave a detailed written description of the lost item with the ladies in the main office.
· Anyone interested in being in the CHS Marching Band next year, please pick up a sign-up slip on the band room door. Fill one out today!
· Any student who is interested in going to the Body Exhibition trip at the South Street Seaport in NYC on Wednesday, May 23rd, please see Ms. Riti or Mr. Denton for a permission slip.
· “No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Discern (verb) – To detect, notice or observe. I could discern the shape of a whale off the starboard bow, but it was too far away to determine its size or species. SYNONYMS: Recognize; ascertain.
· Happy Birthday to: McWendel Alceus, Rose Blaise, Lovanda Brown, Kenneth Cobb, Burton Hopp, Scott Mercado, Roger Ortiz, Megan Padilla, Porsha Reid, Jessica Velez, Ruth Williams and Seth Williams.
FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES
· The sophomore class will be collecting dues during all lunch waves until further notice.
JUNIORS
· The ring man will be here to collect payments today and tomorrow, May 17th and 18th. Ring service days will be on Monday and Tuesday, May 21st and 22nd for any problems you might have with your ring.
· Juniors who are attending the Ring Dance: You must bring your ID and your ticket. Your guest must bring an ID. No one will be allowed to enter after 8 p.m. If you are absent or suspended the day of the dance, you will not be able to attend.
· All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
· Any senior who has not paid for their cap and gown, please see Felicia ASAP.
· The last day to purchase your prom ticket is next Monday, May 21st. NO EXCUSES…NO EXTENTIONS!
· Any senior who owe obligations, please see Therese in the main office ASAP. Do not wait until last minute as this could result in not being able to participate in the graduation ceremonies. Same goes for if you owe obligations to the library. Pay your library obligations to the library. Please pay any obligations immediately!
· Any senior who has an attendance appeal form, must hand it in by Monday, May 21st to the attendance office in room G112. These must to be handed in if you want to graduate!
· Post-prom tickets are on sale in the main lobby for $5. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
· Attention all nominees running for Prom King and Queen: Please make sure to hand in your essay as to why you should be picked and also enclose an appropriate picture with your essay.
PTSO
· The PTSO is hosting a “Post Prom Party” after the prom @ Central High School from 12 to 4 a.m. Our own DJ “Shaq” will provide the music, there will be breakfast/brunch served and LOTS OF FUN! Tickets will be on sale in the main lobby. The cost is $5. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please see Brenda Walker.
· The PTSO will be sponsoring a spring clean-up fundraiser. Items to be collected will be usable and wearable clothing, shoes, household items made of fabric, accessories (pocketbooks, belts, hats and scarves) stuffed animals and hard toys. The drop-off date is Tuesday, May 22nd, in the CHS gym from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Please pack items in large plastic bags.
GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· St. Joseph College in West Hartford is offering the “Institute for Global Studies” and the “Institute for Science and Mathematics.” This is a residential program that runs from July 8th to August 3rd. Earn college credit! The cost is $300. The deadline to apply is tomorrow, May 18th.
· Eastern State University in Willimantic is offering a summer institute for future teachers which will run from July 8th to August 3rd. Students get to live on campus and you also earn college credit! Tuition is $200 but will be waived for students who participate in a Free Lunch Program. This is open to current sophomores and juniors. Deadline to apply is May 30th. See Mr.Moran in the Magnet office.
· Housatonic Community College High School Partnership Program for the Fall 2007. Juniors and sophomores can take a course and earn college credit! The student must maintain a “B” average and have counselor recommendation. See your counselor for details. Deadline to apply is June 22nd.
· Senior scholarship awards will be held on Wednesday, June 6th @ 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
· Seniors of Cape Verdean descent should see Ms. Carpenter for a Cape Verdean Scholarship Application. Applications are due by May 31st.
