ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!
· All students should continue to work hard to improve on your grades. It is not too late to improve and have the high grades that you expect. Just a reminder of our district mission to graduate all students’ college ready and prepared to succeed in life!
· Students: Regarding CAPT, it is very important that you do your very best and that you should come to school daily. If you do not do well on the test, it could impact your graduation. If we are serious about making Central one of the best in the state, let’s prove to the state that we are the best and that you put your best effort on the CAPT.
· All 10th and 11th grade students taking the CAPT: If you come to school every day until testing is done on March 15th, you will be eligible for a drawing. The 1st place winner will receive a new IPOD, 2nd place winner will receive several movie passes, and 3rd place winner will win a $50 gift certificate to FYE! Additionally, a pizza party will be given to the class that has perfect attendance during this time period. Good luck to all student’s!
· If you are a senior or junior that does not have to take the CAPT: You will have a late entry into school. Schedules are posted outside the Main Office or your house office. Most students should be entering approximately at 10:15 for a 10:30 a.m. start.
· All students that were absent any time during the CAPT testing week must make up the test. There will be no make-up’s today, March 14th or tomorrow! They will resume again on Friday, next Monday and Tuesday @ 8:20 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the library.
· Students, regarding our metal detectors, it has now become part of our procedure for admittance into the building. Please arrive to school on time before the 7:53 bell to avoid detention.
· The use of vulgar language has been used less by our students throughout the school day. Thank you! This type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!
· No student is allowed to park in the Staff Parking Lot in the back of the building. If this continues to happen, you will lose your privileges of bringing your car to school. Please adhere to this simple request.
· Students that have not been reporting to study hall, as well as those cutting class, have been receiving detention. However, you will now receive an OSS.
· Please do not leave your jackets, books or book bags in the classrooms. Once the doors are closed, you will not be able to retrieve your belongings.
· I have noticed that more and more students are wearing their ID cards. As a reminder, this is for your safety!
· A continuous reminder to all students that if you are “seen” with any hats or electronic devices, you will be asked for them. Also, no card playing in school.
· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.
· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal. The late bus is provided only for detention and those students participating in after-school activities.
· Let’s keep our school clean! Please do not walk around with any food or drink. Additionally, some of our neighbors have been complaining about the trash outside of the building. Let’s keep our area and Bridgeport clean…Don’t litter!
TEACHERS AND STAFF
· Teachers, please limit passes throughout the day. There are far too many students roaming the corridors, especially during periods 6 & 7. After 2 p.m. daily, there should be no passes unless it is an extreme emergency.
· The Class of 2008 will be having their Ring Dance on Friday, May 18th at The Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT. If anyone plans on attending, please place a note in Ms. McNeill’s or Ms. Boehm’s mailbox or you can send them an e-mail, no later than April 5th.
· Soup is on for Friday! The featured soup is “Bennigan’s Baked Potato Soup!” There will be a new bread that will make you say “cheese!” Cheddar Jalapeńo Bread will be baked fresh. A cup of soup along with a slice of bread is $.225 and a quart with two slices of bread is $5. Delicious!
STUDENTS AND STAFF
· Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors: The National Honor Society applications are now available. See Ms. Yeager or your guidance counselor.
· A very special birthday to Glenda in security!
· The Caribbean Club will be hosting a Cricket game Friday, March 16th after school on the softball field. Please meet with Ms. Cunning in Room B209 @ 2:35. In case of rain, the game will be rescheduled.
· The Girl’s Softball try-out will begin on Monday, March 19th promptly at 2:50 p.m. in the gym. Please bring the necessary paperwork or you will not be able to try-out.
· Building with Books will meet tomorrow, March 15th after school in Room C208. It is important that all members attend and new members are welcome.
· Any student interested in playing on the Golf Team, there will be a short meeting in the library after school today, March 14th.
· There will be a cheerleading meeting today, March 14th after school in the gym.
· The Boys Outdoor Track team will have a pre-season conditioning today and tomorrow, March 14th and 15th in the Gym @ 2:30 p.m. Please have your updated physicals and your permission slips with you.
· The Music Club will meet after school tomorrow, March 15th in Room D115.
· The FCCLA fashion show is scheduled for April 5th @ 6 p.m. Mark your calendars! You may purchase your tickets from any FCCLA member or advisor, Ms. Griffin or Ms. Williams. Thank you for your support!
· ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! It’s back! The Central Junior Police! If you ever had the desire to become a police officer or medical assistant, then this is for you. Come test your strength at one of the most intense physical training programs in the city. For more information, see Officer Harrison in the security office.
· “No Child Left Behind” vocabulary word for the day: Consummate (verb) – To complete, finish or perfect. The deal was consummated with a handshake and the payment of the agreed-upon fee. SYNONYMS: Achieve; conclude.

JUNIORS
· Please pick up your class of 2008 information packets from Ms. Boehm or Ms. McNeill. This packet contains important information regarding the Ring Dance, Senior Banquet and the Prom.
· Any junior who has been nominated for Jr. Prince or Jr. Princess, must pick up a questionnaire sheet from Ms. Boehm or Ms. McNeill ASAP.
· The Ring Dance is fast approaching! There are only 25 tickets left. The balance for your tickets are due ASAP; no later then Thursday, April 5th. No ticket will be sold after that date. The cost is $80. Those students who made deposits for the bus, the bus has been cancelled and your deposits will be put toward the cost of your tickets.
· The next dates the ring man will be here to take orders and collect payments will be on April 12th and 13th, then again on May 17th and 18th. Ring service days will be on May 21st and 22nd for any problems you might have with your ring.
· All 11th grade students must get a physical! The blue physical form was mailed home on January 17th. This form needs to be filled out by the parent or guardian and your doctor. This form should be returned to the school nurse. All doctor appointments must be made for after school hours. Sport physicals are acceptable; obtain a copy from your coach. If you do not have health insurance, sign up with our School Based Health Center to get your physical done there. Only those student’s that turn in their physical will be eligible to obtain their senior schedule.
SENIORS
· Prom invitations are on sale now, period 6 only, in the Lobby Ticket Booth. These tickets are available only to seniors who paid their dues. The cost is $75. First come, first serve. The deadline is tomorrow, March 15th. For those students who have not paid their dues, your invitations will be available at a later date. The price will be $100. Please listen for your announcement.
· Caps and gowns are on sale for $30. The payment deadline will be on Monday, June 11th. Please see Felicia in “C” House ASAP so she can place the orders.
· Seniors, please pick up your form for your diploma from your English teacher or in the main office. Complete and return to Ms. Yvonne in the main office.

GUIDANCE
· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.
· Housatonic Community College and People’s Bank are offering an internship program for students with a GPA of 3.0. There is a $1200. scholarship and a paid internship involved in this! Applications are available in the Magnet Office, the Career Center or your guidance counselor. Deadline to apply is tomorrow, March 15th.
· Job training program – Neighborhood studios is a program for 13 – 19 year old students interested in performing arts, media and fine arts. Classes are held for 13 week semesters @ The Music and Arts Center on Barnum Avenue. This program is free! See Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office for a registration form.
· UCONN Mentoring Program is a summer residential program from July 9th thru July 27th for sophomores and juniors. All different mentorship areas are available. You must be in the top 25% of your class with a 3.0 GPA.
· JUNIORS: There will be a trip to Central Connecticut State University on April 9th. You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. You can obtain a permission slip from counselors Ms. Dougherty in “S” House or Ms. Morrone in “C” House.
· Project Oceanology (Ocean Diversity Institute) is a 1 week free residential program during the April vacation for students interested in marine science at the Coast guard Academy. This is available for current freshman and sophomores. The deadline to apply is March 30th. See Mr. Moran in the Magnet Office for an application.
· SAT – May 5, 2007: Please register by March 29th.
· ACT – June 9, 2007: Please register by May 4th.
· Tech Prep Program – This program is for juniors and seniors to earn up to 12 college credits from Housatonic Community College. This includes mathematics, science, communication and a career course. Please see your Guidance Counselor for requirements. Deadline to apply is March 27th.
· Middle College Program – Seniors can participate in this program to earn two college credits in Math and English at Housatonic Community College. See your Guidance Counselor for requirements. Deadline to apply is March 27th.
