ANNOUNCEMENTS – ALL STUDENTS & STAFF

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

· Central students are going to class on time and working hard in class. Great job. There are less hats, doo rags, electronic devices and cell phones in the building. Keep it up. A gentle reminder that if you are “seen” with these items, you will be asked for them. Also no card playing is allowed. All students must carry their ID cards for security purposes daily. If you do not, you will have a consequence or pay for a new ID, the cost will be $3.

· A reminder to all students: If you can not make your scheduled detention day, speak with you house principal for a Thursday or Friday detention.

· Any student, unless you are in an after school activity or sport, you are to leave the building at dismissal.

· Let’s keep our school clean! Please do not walk around with any food or drink.

· All students, it is through your hard work that will make Central High School one of the best high schools in the state!

· Our Food Drive for the Prospect House is in need of more support. Students and staff, please donate any cans or non-perishable items to each house office or to the main office. This cause can truly help those that are less fortunate. Thank you for participating in this noble cause.

TEACHERS

· The next meeting for the Faculty Senate will be on November 6th at 2:40 p.m. in Room F201. All are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

· Please dismiss the Boy’s Varsity Soccer team at 2:15 today, Oct. 24th.

STUDENTS

· The next meeting for the Interact Officers will be after school today, Oct. 24th in Room F209.

· Gear-Up for English will be held on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in Room E214 with Ms. Furnari and in Room B109 with Mr. Iovino from 2:30–4:00 p.m. Please see your guidance counselor for an application.

· There will be a meeting for any student interested in joining the CHS Usher Guild tomorrow, Oct 25th after school in Room F209 with Ms. Fians. This group of students forms the welcoming committee for various events taking place here during the day or after school as well.

· The National Honor Society has resumed their Monday schedule. They are recruiting blood donors for their up-coming blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. STEP UP ALL YOU GHOULS AND GOBBLINS!! You must be age 17 and weigh at least 110 lbs.

· The Fairfield University’s Academic Talent Search Tutoring Program has begun. Tutoring will take place every Monday & Wednesday from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in Room B107. Please see Ms. Morrone with any questions.

· The Halloween party scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 27th has been cancelled.

· Boy’s Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer Teams will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 25th at 2:30 p.m. in Room E103. This is a mandatory meeting and all should bring their uniforms.

· There will be a Girl’s Indoor Track meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7th @ 2:30 p.m. in Room B210 with Mr. Curtin. Any girls that are interested in running track should attend.

· Attention all Drama Club and theatre students: Permission slips for the field trip to CCSU on Friday, Oct 27th must be turned in by the end of the day on Thursday, Oct. 26th. If you need a permission slip, see Ms. Lee in Room B204 or Mr. Stover in Room A109.

· The Future Nurses Club will meet every Tuesday after school in Room B103. Everyone is welcome!!

· All Urban Club members are to meet for a brief meeting today in the main lobby after school. If you do not attend, you will not be able to participate at the Pep Rally.

· “No Child Left Behind Vocabulary” word for the day: Impeccable – Faultless. The uncrowned queen of the fashion industry, Diana was acclaimed for her impeccable taste.

· Happy Birthday to: Haris Dedovic, Thomisha Holman, Richard Lawrence, Paulina Lewandowska, Inaury Mejia, Carisma Ortiz, Jocelyn Ortiz, Casey Roan, Genesis Vallecillo and Glorivee Vazquez.

FRESHMAN

SOPHOMORES

· Help support the class of 2009 by buying a space on our name board for $1.00. This will be displayed at the pep assembly in November. Please see a class representative during the lunch waves to purchase your spot. All money raised will go toward the class of 2009 student activities.

· Any sophomore wishing to run for any office; president, vice president, secretary, treasurer or publicity, must attend a meeting today, Oct. 24th in Room E113. Be prepared to present a 3-5 minute speech and bring along 2 letters of recommendation from any supporting teacher. See Ms. Mezzanotte in Room E103 or Ms. Harun in Room E113. Come and make your vote count!!

JUNIORS

· Class ring order kits are here!! You can receive yours from your English teacher first, or then from Ms. Boehm in Room B206, Ms. McNeill in Rooms F205 / F207, or in the main office. The Ring Man will be here on Wednesday, Oct. 25th thru Friday, the 27th in the cafeteria during lunch periods.

SENIORS

· Please support the senior class of 2007 by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. See Therese or Liz in the Main Office.

· The Arise Program will hold its meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. in Room B120. Please sign up in the Gear-Up office in Room B110 and see Ms. Elem.

· The absolute last day to have your portrait taken is Thursday, Oct 26th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. If you did not receive an appointment, make sure you show up on Thursday. There will be no other retakes. You have the option to take your picture with a drape or tuxedo with a sitting fee of $20 or without a drape or tuxedo for $10.

PTSO

· Thanksgiving cheesecake and pie sales: Cheesecakes and pies are on sale through November 16th. All orders must be turned in at that time. You can go to your house office to pick up your order forms. Freshman and sophomores: The top 3 sellers will receive $40 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place and 2 free movie tickets for 3rd place. The junior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Junior Ring Dance. The senior who sells the most will receive 1 free ticket to the Prom.

GUIDANCE

· Seniors looking into scholarships should go to our website at www.bridgeportcentral.org. Click on DEPARTMENTS, then GUIDANCE, then SCOLARSHIP LISTINGS. You can apply online or pick up applications in the Career Center or the Magnet Office. The list will be constantly revised as new scholarships come in, so visit it weekly.

· December 2nd SAT: Please register by November 1st.

· December 9th ACT: Please register by November 3rd.

· Central will host a college fair on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Over 50 colleges will be here. Bring along your parents.

· Seniors: There will be a Hispanic College fair at Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, October 31st. Busses will leave Central at 9:30 a.m. and return at 11:30 a.m. Students please get a permission slip from your guidance counselor.

· Central is hosting a financial aid night on Monday, November 13th @ 6:30 p.m. in F111 cafeteria.

· The following colleges will be visiting Central in the library:

1. Wednesday, Oct. 25th - Tufts University (MA) @ 9:45 a.m. Extremely competitive.

2. Wednesday, Oct. 25thBoston College @ 9:45 a.m. Extremely competitive.

3. Thursday, Oct. 26th – UCONN @ 9:30 a.m. 60 student’s maximum. Must have signed form.

4. Friday, Oct. 27thTemple University (Philadelphia, PA) @ 9:30 a.m.
